The Ministry of Defence has announced that the board established to investigate the recent crash of a Z-9 military helicopter has officially commenced work.

In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, the Ministry said the board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with membership drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The United States is also supporting the process by providing technical advice and assistance through visiting experts from the U.S. Air Force.

The board may additionally invite other experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist with the investigation.

The Ministry recalled that on the day of the incident, August 6, 2025, a preliminary investigation team was constituted to gather all available evidence to support the work of the board.  That team was expected to submit its report on Monday.

The investigation board has been given 30 days to complete its work and submit its findings.

The statement was signed by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Acting Minister for Defence.
