Ousmane Dembélé and Aitana Bonmatí were crowned the 2025 Ballon d’Or winners on Monday night, with Bonmatí securing her third consecutive title in the women’s category.
Dembélé, who has enjoyed a career-best season, edged out competition including teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who nevertheless walked away with the prestigious Kopa Trophy for best young men’s player. In the women’s category, Barcelona forward Vicky López was named best young player.
England’s Mary Earps’ successor in goal was Aston Villa’s Hannah Hampton, who claimed the Yashin Trophy for women’s best goalkeeper, while Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma won the men’s equivalent.
Managerial honours went to Sarina Wiegman, who guided England to another strong year, and Spain coach Luis Enrique, recognised for his team’s resurgence on the international stage.
Arsenal were named Women’s Club of the Year, while Paris Saint-Germain took the men’s prize after reclaiming Ligue 1 and making a deep run in Europe.
The ceremony also highlighted England’s continued strength in women’s football, with five Lionesses featuring in the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or Féminin rankings.
Dembélé and Yamal are now seen as frontrunners to dominate the men’s award for years to come, signalling a generational shift at the very top of world football.
