Democracy Hub protesters in Police Custody are said to have been transported to the 37 Military Hospital intersection and forced to “re-enact” the protest for the Police Cameras.

Currently, 53 protesters have been arrested and charged with various offences including unlawful assembly and have been detained in both police and prison custody.

They are expected back in court on Tuesday, October 8 while some of them will have their bail application moved on Monday at the High Court.

In a statement issued on Sunday October 6, 2024 giving an update on the issue which have attracted national attention, Lawyers for Protest Defence, said the detainees involved in the “Re-OccupyJulorbiHouse Protest,” were forced to “re-enactment of the Protest.”

“Some of the protesters who are in police custody have informed our team of lawyers that the police did the following to them on Thursday, October 3, 2024:

“Transported them to the 37 Intersection and forced them to “re-enact” (as the police put it) a protest for police cameras.

“Refused to disclose their identities to them (the detained protesters), and Refused to allow them (the detained protesters) to involve their lawyers in the interrogative exercise,” the statement stated.
