An Associate Professor of Statistics and Director of Research and Innovation at the Kumasi Technical University, Prof. Smart Sarpong is predicting a run-off in the upcoming December 7 polls.
A number of polls have earlier predicted a first round victory for the opposition NDC owing to the the country’s economics crises amongst other issues.
But announcing findings from his endline report of the 276 constituencies, Prof. Smart Sarpong says although the NDC leads in 9 constituencies with the NPP leading in the remaining 9, both parties will be unable to make the 50% +1 mark with the NPP’s Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia leading with 49.1% with former President John Dramani Mahama trailing with 45.8%
Prof. Sarpong is however predicting a landslide victory for the NPP in the race for majority in the 9th Parliament.
According to him the NPP currently is assured of some 128 seats while the NDC can call 92 seats safe with some 56 seats up for grabs.
