Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has called for an end to the culture of impunity that allows public officials to misuse state resources without accountability.
Speaking to the media after handing over the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) report to President John Dramani Mahama, Domelevo expressed optimism that the report would lead to concrete actions against corruption.
“We hope that the culture of impunity, where public officers misuse public resources without any sense of responsibility, will come to an end,” Domelevo stated.
The ORAL Committee was tasked with investigating cases of financial mismanagement and recommending measures to recover misappropriated funds.
With the report now in the hands of the President, Domelevo emphasized the need for further investigations and legal actions where necessary.
“The Attorney General may take up investigations as needed and decide on appropriate actions to ensure accountability,” he added.
He also commended President Mahama for his commitment to the anti-corruption agenda, noting that the government had taken significant steps towards ensuring accountability in public office.
“My greatest happiness today is that the President has shown commitment to the process, allowing the committee to conduct its work independently. The preliminary findings are almost complete, and the final report paves the way for further action,” he said.
The ORAL report is expected to serve as a critical tool in addressing financial mismanagement and reinforcing measures to prevent future occurrences. Anti-corruption advocates have called for swift and decisive action to restore public confidence in governance.
Background on ORAL Committee
The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee was established to investigate corruption-related cases and recover state funds lost through mismanagement and fraud. The committee’s findings are anticipated to guide policy reforms and legal proceedings against individuals implicated in financial irregularities.
With the report now submitted, all eyes are on the government and law enforcement agencies to take decisive steps toward addressing the concerns raised.
