Dr. Prince Obiri Yeboah, a renowned financial consultant, has strongly criticized comments made by the Member of Parliament for Effiduase, Dr. Ayew Afriyie regarding galamsey, labeling them as “useless possessive statements.”
Yeboah expressed frustration that some politicians believe they can manipulate the public with baseless claims, exploiting what they perceive as “cheap minds” among Ghanaians.
He emphasized “It is a useless possessive statement he made. How can you look on the face of the entire Ghanaian populace and tell us that with galamsey, it is the NDC who brought Togolese nationals to engage in illegal mining in our water bodies”.
The MP’s assertion that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) brought Togolese nationals to engage in galamsey in Ghana’s water bodies sparked Danso’s ire.
He challenged the MP to specify which areas the Togolese allegedly destroyed, citing his own experiences crossing River Pra to various locations.
He said “if you cross river Pra you will cry. I cross river Pra go Akyem Oda, Pra go New Abirim, Pra to Takoradi so let’s ask Ayew Afriyie which of these areas did the Togolese came to destroy”.
Dr. Obiri Yeboah further stressed that due to illegal mining activities in our water bodies all the nutritious fishes in our water bodies are dead.
“Our rivers, which used to teem with fish- rivers like Bea, Offin, Pra, Tano and Birim are now devoid of fish. Sadly all the rivers in Ghana that were once rich in nutritious fish have been destroyed”, he explained with tears.
He however noted that in the coming days, fish prices will be expensive.
“we are not thinking as a people; they think we’re only just fighting galamsey. Soon, fish prices will skyrocket”.
emphasized that holding public officials accountable for their actions and words is crucial. “If we give some people power and they refuse to act on that power, speaking useless words, we should be bold enough to tell them it doesn’t make sense,” he stated.
