Dr. Peter Appiahene, a member of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), has strongly refuted allegations made by journalist Captain Smart, host of the “Onua Maakye” program on Onua TV.
The claims, which surfaced in a viral video on social media, accused Dr. Appiahene of being present at the EC’s headquarters during the recent balloting for positions on the ballot paper for Ghana’s general election and assisting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by providing a “special yellow-colored ball” to secure the number one spot.
In response, Dr. Appiahene categorically denied the accusations, labeling them as “completely false” and unsupported by any evidence.
He clarified that he was in Sunyani at the time, fulfilling his duties as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
He emphasized that there is ample evidence at the university to prove his presence in Sunyani during the balloting period.
Dr. Appiahene challenged Captain Smart to provide any proof to support the claims, reaffirming his commitment to upholding his integrity and values, which he stated have guided his work since joining the Electoral Commission.
He further stressed that his role at the EC is to ensure credible elections for the nation, without favoring any individual or political party.
Calling on the public to dismiss the allegations, Dr. Appiahene reaffirmed his dedication to serving Ghana with “transparency, fairness, and integrity.”
