As the nation gears up for the upcoming December 2024 elections, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a comprehensive training program aimed at preparing its system operators and control engineers to handle any emergencies that may arise during and after the elections.
The three-day capacity-building workshop, organized by the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region of ECG, was held at the Boadi Regional Office in Kumasi. The initiative forms part of ECG’s dual-layered strategy to ensure uninterrupted power supply through both preventive maintenance of the system and the preparedness of its personnel.
Speaking at the event, Collins Manu, Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region, emphasized the importance of the training. “This program is integral to our plan to maintain supply continuity. Our strategy includes ensuring that the system is in optimal condition through preventive maintenance and that our staff are well-equipped to manage any emergencies,” he stated.
According to Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, the workshop, conducted in three batches, targeted system operators and control engineers from across the region.
The goal was to boost participants’ confidence and improve their ability to respond to critical situations efficiently and professionally, especially during periods of heightened demand and potential disruptions, such as national elections.
“With these preparations, ECG is reaffirming its commitment to being a reliable partner in the socioeconomic development of Ghana. We are ready to provide safe, reliable electricity to meet the country’s energy needs during the elections and beyond,” Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher explained.
The training comes at a critical time, as the stability of electricity supply is crucial to the smooth running of the electoral process, as well as for other essential services nationwide. The ECG’s proactive approach is seen as a step toward ensuring that power supply remains consistent, even in the face of potential challenges.
The Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region of ECG continues to play a vital role in the company’s overall operational efficiency, and this training program further underscores the importance ECG places on both system and manpower readiness.
