Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, popularly known as Koo Ofori from the Ghanaian television sitcom Efiewura, has been arrested by the Accra Central Police Command for allegedly defrauding a U.S.-based Ghanaian of $50,000.
According to police sources, the California-based complainant transferred the funds to the actor for what was presented as a legitimate investment opportunity. However, Koo Ofori reportedly failed to fulfill his obligations under the agreement and subsequently went into hiding.
After repeated unsuccessful attempts to recover the funds, the victim reported the case to authorities.
Investigations revealed that the actor had defaulted on repayment and ignored a court summons to appear before the Dansoman District Court on April 17, 2025.
His failure to appear prompted the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
A video shared by Accra-based Atinka TV shows the actor being handcuffed and escorted by police officers during the arrest.
He was taken into custody and was scheduled to appear in court on May 9, 2025.
That appearance has since been postponed, with the case now rescheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025.
Koo Ofori remains in police custody pending the court hearing.
