The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has cautioned persons applying for admissions against a fraudulent syndicate demanding payments and details of applicants to facilitate admission processes.
According to a red alert issued by the office of the registrar, the syndicate is using cloned email addresses to defraud prospective students.
“The syndicate operates under the guise of fraudulent email addresses such as [email protected] and [email protected] to solicit payments and personal information from unsuspecting applicants,” the statement disclosed.
Prospective students have been directed to use the official modes of application stipulated by the university and not any other third parties.
“KNUST wishes to state unequivocally that it has not authorized individuals, agents, or third parties to handle admissions on behalf of the University. All admissions processes are managed solely by the University’s official channels,” the notice instructed.
The university has further urged applicants to report all such persons who make similar advances to the police to support efforts at flushing out this fraudulent gang.
“We urge all prospective students and their parents to disregard any such fraudulent communications and report them immediately to the nearest police station,” the school requested.
The university gave assurances that its application system remains fair and transparent asking both students and guardians to be extra cautious to avoid fraudsters.
