A motion is set to be introduced at the upcoming Annual General Assembly of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) in Ho, aimed at removing Dr. Frank Serebour from his position as president.
Dr.(Med) Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, a member of the GMA, announced his intentions in a petition dated October 8, citing breaches of the GMA constitution, specifically Articles 16 and 23(3).
The petition accuses Dr. (Med) Serebour of unilaterally declaring the association’s non-participation in a labor strike against illegal mining, without consulting the National Executive Council or the General Assembly.
Earlier today, a statement signed by Dr.(Med) Frank Serebour indicated that Ghana Medical Association has not declared roadmap for an industrial action, stressing that all members are expected to continue providing full services without interuptions.
This action allegedly “tarnished the association’s reputation and contradicted its previous stance on illegal mining issues”, Dr. Abayateye stated.
Dr. Abayateye aims to gather the necessary two-thirds majority support from assembly members for the motion to pass.
He has requested that this matter be included in the agenda for the assembly scheduled from November 3 to 10, 2024, urging notification to both the involved officer and GMA members.
