Deputy Minister of Defence Brogya Genfi has commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and discipline during a twin ceremony held at the Western Naval Command, where the Command was consecrated and Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) Pru was officially commissioned.
Speaking as Guest of Honor at the event, the Defence Minister described the occasion as memorable and praised the precision displayed during the parade.
“I was deeply impressed by the remarkable precision and discipline of the parade, which reflected the professionalism of our Armed Forces,” he said.
The ceremony marked the formal consecration and presentation of colours to the Western Naval Command, alongside the commissioning of GNS Pru into active service.
Brogya Genfi acknowledged the role of President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, for granting the charter for GNS Pru. He said the President’s leadership and vision continue to inspire efforts to modernize and strengthen the country’s military capabilities.
The event was attended by top military officials, including the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. William Agyapong; the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Adm. Livinus Bessing; and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frimpong. The Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, was also present.
Mr. Genfi expressed appreciation to all dignitaries and guests who attended the ceremony.
According to him, the addition of GNS Pru will significantly enhance the Navy’s operational capacity, particularly in safeguarding Ghana’s maritime domain. He noted that the vessel would play a key role in protecting offshore oil production platforms and other strategic national assets.
The Deputy Minister said the commissioning forms part of broader efforts to modernize the Armed Forces and ensure that Ghana’s maritime space remains secure and resilient.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening national defence capabilities and safeguarding the country’s territorial waters against emerging threats.
