Ghana’s National Fire Service (GNFS) is set to benefit from specialized training and modern firefighting equipment from the City of Trenton in New Jersey, United States, following high-level discussions led by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed.
The Minister disclosed that during his visit to Trenton last week, he held talks with the city’s Mayor, Hon. W. Reed Gusciora, and toured the Trenton Fire Department, where he was briefed on advanced emergency response systems.
As part of the collaboration, Trenton and other U.S. municipalities will provide technical assistance and training for GNFS personnel in areas such as firefighting, emergency response, and disaster preparedness.
The initiative will also include donations of modern firefighting equipment aimed at bridging logistical gaps within the service.
The Asawase MP said the partnership would boost the operational readiness of the GNFS, enhance institutional capacity, and strengthen Ghana’s ability to manage fire outbreaks and other emergencies effectively.
“This collaboration goes beyond technical support it reflects a spirit of solidarity and a shared commitment to public safety,” the Minister noted.
Officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York accompanied the Interior Minister during the visit, underscoring the diplomatic ties underpinning the initiative.
