The government has launched a ministerial committee tasked with overseeing Ghana’s comprehensive preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, signaling an early and strategic approach to the global tournament.
The committee was inaugurated at the Presidency on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who said the move reflects the national importance attached to Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
He emphasized that preparations must extend beyond the pitch to include logistics, funding, diplomacy, and national branding.
Mr. Debrah urged the committee to work closely with the national team’s technical handlers, coordinate travel arrangements, mobilize financial resources, and protect Ghana’s international image throughout the competition.
A key directive was for the committee to initiate immediate discussions with the United States Embassy to streamline visa access for Ghanaian fans hoping to travel for the tournament. According to him, embassy officials have already expressed willingness to facilitate higher supporter attendance.
“They said they are ready to make sure as many Ghanaians as possible are able to attend,” he noted, encouraging the committee to follow up promptly to ensure no delays in the process.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Iddi Adams, expressed gratitude to the Presidency for its support throughout the qualification journey. He also acknowledged the contributions of private sector representatives and other committee members who played crucial roles in planning and logistics during the qualifiers.
Mr. Adams said the collaborative efforts that secured Ghana’s qualification should drive the country’s preparations for the main event, expressing confidence that the national team would not only perform well but also project a positive image of Ghana on the world stage.
