The Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, has directed the newly inaugurated ministerial committee overseeing Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to begin talks with the United States Embassy to make visa access easier for Ghanaian supporters.
He issued the directive in Accra during the inauguration of the committee on Wednesday [Nov 26, 2025.]
He said early engagement with the Embassy was needed to create space for large numbers of Ghanaian fans who wished to travel to the United States and Canada for the tournament.
The Chief of Staff said officials of the American Embassy had recently indicated their readiness to support Ghanaian attendance at the competition.
“They said they are ready to make sure as many Ghanaians as possible are able to attend,” he said. He asked the committee to act on that opening without delay.
Make time and follow up with the appropriate officials at the American Embassy to make sure Ghanaians are allowed to go and cheer their team, he said.
He explained that the instruction formed part of a broader change in how Ghana is approaching its planning for the World Cup. In past tournaments, preparations were mostly centred on the sporting aspects.
He said the Presidency was now taking a wider view that covers logistics, national representation, tourism, and investment promotion.He said the committee would supervise travel arrangements to ensure that Ghana is well represented and that the country’s image is protected throughout the tournament.
The World Cup, she said, gives Ghana a chance to present itself to a global audience and preparations must go beyond the 90 minutes of football. She added that the new approach forms part of efforts to position the country for future opportunities in global sports.
He urged the committee to work with the relevant institutions and use the early discussions with the US Embassy to make the travel process smooth for fans who wish to attend the tournament.
