The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has pledged his full commitment to securing victory for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 presidential election.
During a courtesy call on the Nayiri, the Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Sheriga, in Nalerigu as part of his regional campaign tour, Dr. Opoku Prempeh assured that the people of the Ashanti Region have resolved to support Bawumia, expressing confidence in his potential to lead Ghana toward a prosperous future.
At the Nayiri’s Palace in the Nalerigu-Gambaga constituency, Dr. Opoku Prempeh sought the prayers, blessings, and guidance of the Mamprugu overlord, reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to Dr. Bawumia.
He emphasized the significance of Bawumia’s candidacy in mobilizing support and strengthening the party’s base in the region, particularly in light of the current administration’s social initiatives, such as the Free SHS policy and the National Health Insurance Scheme, which he believes would be best preserved under continued NPP governance.
The Nayiri, through his spokesperson, extended his blessings to Dr. Opoku Prempeh and expressed gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo for his unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia.
The stool secretary, speaking on behalf of the Nayiri and the people of Mamprugu, thanked the NPP government for its consistent dedication to “our son,” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and encouraged the party to continue supporting the development of the newly created regions.
In a rally following the palace visit, Dr. Opoku Prempeh introduced the NPP’s parliamentary candidates for the North East Region and underscored the importance of Bawumia’s candidacy as a unifying symbol, transcending religious and ethnic divisions.
He highlighted that the NPP’s choice of Dr. Bawumia exemplifies Ghana’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among its diverse communities.
He contrasted this with the opposition, stating that the NPP has provided leadership opportunities to Muslims and Northern Ghanaians, in contrast to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he argued only seeks their votes. He asserted that it would be “haram” for Muslims to vote for the NDC.
The rally provided a platform for the parliamentary candidates from the North East Region to share their vision and campaign goals, amplifying the NPP’s message of unity and progress for the upcoming elections.
