Vice President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has raised concerns about the potential electoral implications of a declining vote share following the release of recent election results, of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primary results warning that the trend could affect Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the entire NPP in the main elections in 2028.
In a post on social media platform X on Sunday , Cudjoe described the outcome as “a win, alright,” but noted a drop in percentage support from 61 percent to 56 percent.
He questioned whether the decline signals a deeper challenge that could reflect in the next general elections.
“Could it reflect in the main elections in 2028?” Cudjoe asked, suggesting that if the trend continues, the governing side could see its support fall further, potentially dropping from 41 percent to 38 percent by 2028.
He added that the figures point to the need for greater effort going forward, concluding his post with a call for renewed work and focus.
“More work ahead,” he wrote, referencing the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with the initials “DMB.”
While Cudjoe did not provide detailed data to support his projections, his comments have sparked discussion online about voter sentiment and the long-term electoral prospects of the governing party.
Political analysts say shifts in percentage support, even in victories, can offer early signals of voter dissatisfaction or changing dynamics that may become more pronounced in future elections if not addressed.
Neither the government nor the campaign team of Vice President Bawumia has officially responded to Cudjoe’s remarks as of the time of publication.
