Asante Youth Association General Secretary, Tweneboa Kodua, has accused certain factions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately using insults and fostering hatred to alienate Asante elders from the party.
In an interview on AbusuaFm’s program AbusuaNkommo with Kojo Marfo, Kodua highlighted the ongoing internal tensions and voiced the determination of Asante youths to resist these divisive attempts.
Kodua revealed that although he does not engage on social media platforms, the Asante Youth Association (AYA) will continue to assert its influence within the party and rally its supporters in defense of the elders.
He criticized what he termed “small boys” within the party those who have enriched themselves since coming to power for attempting to undermine the established leadership with social media tactics.
“The strength of the party; what deceives them is that their small boys, who come to them for small money, and those small boys who have enriched themselves since they came to power, are on social media, but we are not. However, we will always command the space, and our people will follow.”
He lamented the practice within the NPP of insulting Asante elders, questioning why attacks from party members often come through representatives from other regions rather than directly from the Asante themselves.
Kodua stated, “They always want to test the social power of the Asantes. Look, Abronye has left his elders in the Bono Region and didn’t insult them.
“In the NPP, if anyone is insulted, it is always an elder from the Asante who is targeted in the party. Why is it that they always hide behind someone from a different region to insult Asante people in the party?,” he stressed adding “What Abronye said, can he say the same to Osafo Marfo and go to the Eastern Region? Can he make such remarks? Where did we go wrong?”
Kodua maintained that it is a deliberate attempt by elements in the party to use continuous hatred and insults to push Asante stalwarts from the party.
He said “All Asante elders in the NPP have been subjected to insults and hatred, and this is a deliberate attempt to push them out of the party.”
When the host asked, ‘Now you’ve seen that?’ Kodua emphasized, ‘No, this has already happened. You don’t need a seer to tell you. We can all attest to it; it is a plan for everyone to see.’
Addressing claims linking Alan Kyerematen with Asante political influence, Kodua disputed the narrative associating the Asante Youth Association with Alan, stating, “When he formed his party, UP Plus, have you heard of any AYA member being given an appointment?”
“What was going through that guy’s (Kofi Ofosu Nkansah) mind to associate Alan with us? You can see the wickedness in his head, and the sad thing is that they always use Asante people for such evil purposes,” he remarked.
Kodua called on his fellow Asantes to be wise and recognize the dynamics of political, economic, and social power struggles within the party, warning that efforts to undermine elders are strategic moves to consolidate political power and control economic benefits.
He emphasized, “I’m pleading with my fellow Asantes and Asanteman to be wise. There are three powers in the world: political power, economic power, and social power. Certain groups of people are much more interested in gaining political power to achieve economic power, so that after gaining it, they can rule over you. When your elders speak, they insult them and try to demotivate you. They are using the same weapon to kill our elders in politics.
“When J.A. Kufuor speaks, do we allow others to speak? All these are calculated attempts. When they are done, they go and worship their own in their region,” Tweneboa Kodua concluded.
