The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling illegal drug use and trafficking, particularly in Zongo communities.

He made the remarks during a community engagement with Zongo Chiefs and Muslim opinion leaders at Abossey Okai New Zongo in Accra earlier today.

Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Muntaka emphasized that law enforcement agencies will intensify operations against individuals involved in drug-related activities, regardless of their status or affiliations.

“No one will be spared,” he stated firmly, warning that drug abuse not only ruins lives but also disqualifies individuals from accessing government programs and opportunities.

He urged the youth and residents of Zongo communities to steer clear of illegal drugs, pointing out the long-term social and economic consequences of substance abuse.

The Minister called on community leaders to play a proactive role by questioning individuals with unexplained wealth and reporting suspected drug dealers to authorities.

“We must take collective responsibility and support the rule of law,” Alhaji Muntaka said, discouraging vigilante justice and encouraging collaboration with state security institutions.

In a direct appeal to the youth, he advised them to align with government development initiatives designed to improve their lives.

He further reminded the predominantly Muslim audience to remain guided by Islamic values and to reject those whose actions threaten the moral and social fabric of their communities.

The Chief of Zongo in Accra, Alhaji Yaaya Amisu Baako, welcomed the Minister’s visit and expressed appreciation for the government’s engagement.

He pledged the support of traditional and religious leaders in addressing the challenges facing Zongo communities.

The visit, part of ongoing efforts by the Interior Ministry, serves as a renewed call to action for all stakeholders to work together in building safer, healthier, and more prosperous communities across Ghana.
