A final-year student and acting Boys’ Prefect of Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi has died after reportedly falling from the top floor of the school’s administration block on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
A form three Business student of the Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi, identified as Abass, died on Tuesday after falling from the upper floor of the school’s administration block during school hours.
The incident drew the attention of both students and staff who rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion.
Abass, who also served as the acting Boys’ Prefect, was immediately rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sources within the school Kumasi Mail that the student had allegedly shown signs of distress in the past and was believed to have been contemplating suicide, although school authorities were unaware of these concerns.
Family sources including his mother and uncle confirmed that Abass had previously made remarks suggesting he might harm himself.
According to them, they assumed he was joking and did not treat the comments as indications of serious intent. Some students also corroborated these accounts.
When the media visited the school, the administrators confirmed that they had reported the matter to the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service.
However, the GES has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The body of the deceased has since been buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Authorities and family members are urging students and the public to take mental health concerns seriously and to seek immediate help when individuals display signs of distress.
