The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) held its Annual Thanksgiving Service, Long-Service, and Best Staff Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 28, 2025, recognizing dedicated staff and celebrating a year of remarkable achievements.

The event, which took place at the hospital’s premises, brought together key stakeholders, including the Ashanti Regional Minister, members of the clergy, hospital directors, representatives from the Ghana Health Service, sponsors, and staff members.

Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, CEO of KATH, expressed gratitude to God for guiding the hospital through a successful 2024 and reaffirmed KATH’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of 20 of the hospital’s longest-serving employees, some of whom have dedicated over 40 years of service to the institution.

Additionally, 19 other employees were awarded in various categories for their exceptional contributions to healthcare delivery in 2024.

The top four awardees in the Best Staff Awards category received cash prizes as follows:

  • Overall Best Staff – GHC 20,000
  • 1st Runner-Up – GHC 15,000
  • 2nd Runner-Up – GHC 10,000
  • 3rd Runner-Up – GHC 5,000

Other winners received electronic gadgets and other prizes in recognition of their excellence.

The most innovative directorates and units were also rewarded with GHC 30,000 each for their contributions to operational efficiency and improved patient care.

Infrastructure Upgrades and Service Improvements

Reflecting on the hospital’s achievements in 2024, Prof. Addai-Mensah highlighted key infrastructure projects and service enhancements aimed at improving healthcare delivery.

One of the major undertakings was the renovation and modernization of the “GEE” Blocks under the Asantehene’s Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP).

The hospital also renovated and upgraded its Main Theatre, expanded the Dialysis Centre increasing the number of dialysis machines from two in 2023 to fifteen by the end of 2024 and retooled the Laundry Unit.

Additionally, a Short Turnaround Time (STAT) Laboratory was established at the Family Medicine Directorate to provide rapid test results for urgent cases, reducing patient waiting times and enhancing healthcare efficiency.

Prof. Addai-Mensah commended the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and generous sponsors such as Justmoh Constructions Limited and Joshob Construction Limited for their tremendous support in advancing KATH’s infrastructure projects.

The CEO expressed appreciation to the government, the hospital’s board, donors, healthcare professionals, administrative and technical staff, and the wider community for their unwavering support in 2024.

He also acknowledged the event’s sponsors, including StarLife Assurance, KATH Co-Operative Credit Union, Multi Home Ltd, SAG Systems Ltd, Panacea Pharmacy, Nationwide Medical Insurance, GLLAT Pharmacy, Hills Pharmaceutical Ltd, Philips Pharmaceutical, Dannipharma Ltd, MDS Lancet, and others, for making the event possible.

KATH’s 70th Anniversary Celebration Announced

In a major announcement, Prof. Addai-Mensah revealed that KATH will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2025, marking seven decades of excellence in specialist clinical services, training, and research.

He stated that a comprehensive program would be launched to commemorate the hospital’s impact on Ghana’s healthcare system.

Prof. Addai-Mensah reaffirmed KATH’s dedication to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in healthcare delivery.

He encouraged staff to remain committed to the hospital’s mission and vision, assuring them that management would continue to invest in their well-being and professional development.

The ceremony concluded with an atmosphere of appreciation, inspiration, and renewed commitment to advancing healthcare in Ghana.
