The Chief of Kayoro Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Pio Pe Oscar Batabi Tiyiam II, has made a strong appeal for infrastructure development, healthcare improvements, and enhanced security in his community.
Pio Pe Tiyam II made the request on Wednesday during a visit by the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga.
Speaking on the pressing challenges facing Kayoro, the chief highlighted deteriorating roads, inadequate electricity, and growing security threats due to the community’s proximity to Burkina Faso. He urged the government to take swift action to address these concerns.
The chief expressed deep frustration over the poor state of the main access road to Kayoro, which he said disrupts the transportation of food supplies, leading to spoilage and financial losses.
“The deplorable road results in food getting stuck and eventually going bad, worsening livelihoods here,” he stated.
He further pointed out that only parts of his traditional area has access to reliable electricity, calling for a broader extension of power supply to support economic activities and improve living conditions.
On healthcare, Pio Pe Tiyiam II appealed for an upgrade of the local health center into a fully equipped hospital to meet the growing medical needs of the community.
He also highlighted the lack of housing for teachers and nurses, which negatively impacts education and healthcare services.
Security concerns were also at the forefront of the discussion, with the chief emphasizing the urgent need for a police post to counter potential cross-border threats.
“We are vulnerable to attacks and urgently need a police post to enhance safety,” he asserted.
In response, the Regional Ministerassured the chief and his people of immediate steps to address the security post request. He also pledged to escalate all concerns to President John Mahama for further action.
