New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has announced plans to relocate selected government ministries from Accra to other regions if elected President, as part of efforts to promote regional development and ease congestion in the national capital.

Speaking at a campaign event, Mr. Agyapong outlined that under his administration, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture would be relocated to the Northern Region to strengthen the region’s role as the country’s agricultural hub.

Similarly, he proposed moving the Ministry of Energy to the Western Region, given its status as a major center for Ghana’s oil and gas production.

He further disclosed that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture could be relocated to the Volta Region to decentralize tourism management and stimulate both domestic and international tourism traffic.

According to the Assin Central legislator, relocating ministries to various regions would help reduce overcrowding, rising housing costs, traffic congestion, and unemployment in Accra while encouraging equitable development across the country.

The former Assin North MP emphasized that his decentralization policy aims to make government institutions more accessible to citizens outside the capital and ensure that resources and opportunities are spread fairly among all regions.

The NPP flagbearer hopeful’s proposals form part of his broader vision to decongest Accra and revitalize regional economies through targeted infrastructural and institutional reforms.
