Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, has lashed out at residents of Kintampo, calling them “ungrateful” for not supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite the development projects and appointments the government has provided for the area.
Speaking at a rally in Kintampo as part of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s campaign tour, Agyapong expressed disappointment with the voting patterns of the people, accusing them of favoring the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) even though they have benefited from the NPP’s governance.
“The NPP has been fair to you, Kintampo people,” Agyapong said. “Every election year, you vote for the NDC despite all the things you have received from us. I’m the chairman for the government’s Astroturf project. You need one, but I will not bring it. When I ask them to do it for you, they will quickly do it, but I won’t ask because you are ungrateful.”
Agyapong also highlighted key appointments of individuals from Kintampo under the current government, including the Comptroller-General and the Director-General of the Immigration Service, which he believes have not been appreciated by the community.
He urged the traditional leaders and party members to change their voting preferences in the upcoming elections, challenging them to shift their support to the NPP.
“For once, I’m begging you, after continuously voting for the NDC for over 32 years now, please change hands and vote for the NPP,” Agyapong added, warning that if Kintampo constituents do not vote for the NPP, they should not expect any further development projects from the party.
Kennedy Agyapong’s remarks have sparked discussions about the role of government in providing development projects and whether such projects should be contingent on political support.
