Assembly Members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will today vote to confirm or reject President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee, Richard Ofori Boadi Agyemang, popularly known as King Zuba, as the new Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).
The nominee, a former MCE of Obuasi, will require at least a two-thirds majority of the total 60 Assembly Members comprising both elected assembly members and government appointees to secure the position.
The Electoral Commission will supervise the voting process, which will be conducted through a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ ballot.
The nomination of King Zuba has been met with approval from the Kumasi Traditional Council and many residents, who are keenly awaiting the outcome of the Assembly’s decision.
In an interview with www.kumasimail.com, the nominee expressed optimism about his chances.
“I have met with the Assembly Members and shared my vision and plans for Kumasi. They have all responded positively to the new chapter I want to begin—with their support. I am confident that they will confirm me today so we can move Kumasi forward together,” he stated.
The decision of the Assembly Members is expected to shape the leadership direction of Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, as the government seeks to accelerate local development and infrastructure growth under a new MCE.
