President John Dramani Mahama has assented to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, paving the way for the formal rollout of one of his administration’s flagship economic policies

The bill was signed on Thursday in a brief ceremony ahead of the 13th cabinet meeting.

Speaking after appending his signature, President Mahama described the legislation as a key component of his government’s strategy for economic transformation.
“This Bill, which Ghanaians have been waiting for, was one of our flagship strategies for economic transformation,” he told cabinet colleagues.
He said the delay in signing the bill was to allow for due diligence and ensure the policy had a firm legal foundation.
“Now we must move from strategy to implementation. The business sector is waiting, Ghanaian investors are waiting, foreign investors are waiting,” he said.
According to the president, investors are looking forward to details of the incentive packages that will accompany the policy to enable them to expand operations, boost productivity and create jobs, particularly for young people.
Coordinating implementation
The new law establishes a 24-Hour Economy Authority, which will serve as the central coordinating body responsible for implementing the policy.
The authority is expected to align public and private sector efforts while addressing infrastructure gaps and regulatory requirements necessary to sustain round-the-clock economic activity.
Government officials say the policy is aimed at increasing productivity, attracting investment and reducing unemployment by encouraging businesses and public institutions to operate beyond traditional working hours.
The next phase, President Mahama indicated, will focus on operationalising the authority and rolling out the incentives framework to support businesses under the new system.
