Manhyia Palace has officially announced a ban on all funerals throughout the Asanteman traditional area on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The directive is to allow the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of Asanteman to solemnly observe the One Week Celebration of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
This announcement was made public in a press statement issued by Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, Deputy Chief of Staff at Manhyia Palace.
The release, also communicated to the local media outlet Kumasimail, revealed that the Asantehene formally informed the Asanteman council on Monday, August 11, 2025, about the passing of the revered Asantehemaa, who peacefully died on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
According to the statement, “His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on Monday, August 11, 2025, officially informed the Asanteman Council of the demise of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025.”
The One Week Celebration will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Bogyawe within the precincts of Manhyia Palace.
The observance is scheduled to run from 12:00 noon through 6:00 p.m., during which all funerals across Asanteman are prohibited to ensure undivided respect and attention to the mourning and commemorative rites.
The statement emphasized “Manhyia Palace announces for the information of the general public that there will be a ban on all funerals across Asanteman on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to allow Asantehene and Asanteman observe the One Week Celebration of Asantehemaa.”
