The Minority Caucus in Parliament has formally raised concerns about the chairmanship of the Ad-Hoc Committee, stating that it will await the Speaker’s response before proceeding with further engagements in the committee’s work.
In a memorandum submitted to the Speaker of Parliament, the Minority, led by its representatives, expressed reservations about the continued leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah as Chairman of the Committee.
The details of the concerns remain undisclosed, but the Caucus emphasized that their decision should not be seen as a refusal to participate in the committee’s activities.
“This should not be misconstrued as an unwillingness on the part of the Minority to engage with the Committee. Rather, it is a necessary step to ensure that due process is followed and the process remains fair, impartial, and credible,” the memorandum stated.
The Minority Caucus further expressed confidence that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, will address their concerns in a way that upholds the integrity of the committee’s work and strengthens trust in parliamentary proceedings.
The Ad-Hoc Committee, which plays a crucial role in parliamentary investigations and deliberations, has been at the center of discussions in recent weeks.
With the Minority’s position now officially communicated, political observers anticipate that the Speaker’s response could significantly shape the next steps in the committee’s proceedings.
Both the Majority and Minority Leaders, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, have been copied in the communication, indicating that the issue could require broader consultation among parliamentary leadership.
