First Lady of Ghana, H.E. Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has extended a heartfelt tribute to Ghanaian mothers and women across the country in a special message marking this year’s Mother’s Day celebration.
In her message, Mrs. Mahama praised the “incredible strength, unwavering love, and countless sacrifices” of mothers, describing them as “the pillars of our homes and the heartbeat of our nation.” She emphasized the central role women play in nurturing families and building resilient communities, which she said is critical to the nation’s progress and stability.
“As mothers, our nurturing hands, wise counsel, and unconditional support lay the foundation for a compassionate and prosperous society,” she noted.
Reflecting on the importance of empowering families, Mrs. Mahama echoed the views of her husband, former President John Dramani Mahama, stating that national development must prioritize the well-being of Ghanaian households. “President Mahama remains committed to restoring the economy for robust and inclusive growth, expanding job opportunities for the youth, and positioning Ghana as a destination for both local and foreign investment,” she said.
Mrs. Mahama also reaffirmed her personal commitment to the advancement of women and vulnerable groups through the work of the Lordina Foundation. The foundation, she said, continues to provide skills training, economic support, and advocacy for women’s rights, as well as vital services for children and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
A major focus of the foundation’s efforts, according to her, is improving maternal and child healthcare. “We are dedicated to enhancing health facilities across the country, with a focus on modern maternity and children’s wards,” she said, stressing her dedication to ensuring quality care for mothers during pregnancy and childbirth.
She concluded by expressing deep appreciation to all mothers for their dedication and sacrifices. “Your strength and love are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated by your families, communities, and the nation,” she said. “May your day be filled with joy, peace, and the profound love you so richly deserve.”
Mother’s Day is celebrated globally to honour the contributions and sacrifices of mothers and mother figures. In Ghana, the day is marked with tributes, gifts, and various expressions of gratitude across homes, churches, and communities.
