The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has denied allegations linking him to a confrontation between residents of Asutifi South and a Military Taskforce deployed on a national assignment (NAIMOS).
In a press statement issued over the weekend, the MP described the incident as “unfortunate” and expressed his commitment to maintaining peace and collaboration with security agencies in the area.
According to Ebenezer Addo, the altercation occurred on November 1, 2025, while he was on his way to attend a funeral at Acherensua in the Asutifi South Constituency.
He stated that upon reaching Hwidiem, he noticed heightened tension in the town and was informed of an ongoing military operation at a gold mining site.
He said he subsequently contacted Collins Dauda, the MP for Asutifi South, who was out of the country at the time.
Hon. Addo said Mr. Collins Dauda asked him to visit the site and speak with the military officers on his behalf.
“Upon reaching the site with my constituency vice chairman and driver, I introduced myself to the leader of the taskforce and asked that he speak with Hon. Dauda on the phone,” Hon. Addo explained.
He further noted that some youth were gathering at the scene, prompting him to advise that the group move to the police station to make an official statement and hand over any items or suspects to law enforcement in order to calm tensions.
While at the Hwidiem Police Station, Hon. Addo said the situation escalated when it was discovered that the main road had been blocked. Security officials, including the Regional Police Crime Officer, NIB operatives, and the Kenyasi Police Commander, were present as statements were being taken.
The MP added that he called on the Zongo Chief of Hwidiem to assist in restoring calm.
The Chief later volunteered his vehicle to transport the military officers after their pickup truck was damaged.
However, the Chief’s Toyota Sequoia was also attacked, resulting in broken rear windows.
Hon. Addo clarified that he had already left for other engagements in Ntotroso, Gyedu, and Wamahinso when this occurred.
“Under no circumstance will I incite the youth against security officers or any government initiative,” he emphasized. “As a responsible lawmaker, I will always work with the security agencies to maintain law and order.”
The MP also expressed disappointment that the police’s situation report did not acknowledge his efforts to help de-escalate the situation.
He called on the public to disregard what he described as “false narratives” aimed at tarnishing his reputation and undermining his service to his constituents.
“As your Member of Parliament, I remain committed to the welfare and safety of Ghanaian citizens and all state institutions,” he concluded.
