The annual MTN 21 days of Y’ello Care, a flagship calendar initiative of telecommunications giant MTN is set to benefit thousands, particularly children, youth and women as the company directs its staff led volunteering campaign towards the digital inclusion of underserved communities.
The initiative which kicked off on the 1st of June and expected to last till the21st of June under the theme “Connecting at the Roots – Connecting Communities through Digital Tools,” reinforces the company’s vision to lead Ghana’s digital transformation agenda leaving no one behind.
Launching the initiative at MTN’s Kaase Branch in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region, MTN Northern District General Manager Nii Adotey Mingle outlined that the company will be deploying mobile vans to specific communities to train students in practical digital skills.
“We are sending mobile service vans to communities to teach the students how to use computers. Our staff will be coming along to train the children in Information and Communication Technology,” he pointed out.
As part of the digital literacy and youth empowerment leg of the drive, youth in the Ashanti Region will receive training in the repair and servicing of mobile phones and related digital gadgets, to enable them set up their own businesses in the thriving phone repair space.
“It’s a way of empowering our youth. They will be thought how to repair phones. These skills can easily be harnessed to launch out their own businesses,” he explained.
Mr. Mingle whose jurisdiction stretches to the Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Savana, North East, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions disclosed that the company is investing resources in equipping especially women in these agrarian communities with financial literacy and the use of Mobile Money and its services to enhance their livelihoods, improve access to financial services and boost their businesses.
“We will be working with our women in agribusiness especially in communities in the northern belt. They are very important to us because we know how their work can be greatly enhanced if they begin using digital technologies like the Mobile Money and its enablers to enhance their businesses,” he noted.

To sustain these efforts, MTN is ramping up Digital Inclusion by equipping Schools and Community Youth centers with devices and digital literacy workshops; deploying community Wi-Fi access points and supporting digital entrepreneurship and establishing all-in-one Y’ello Pods as digital hubs for learning and financial services.
MTN is further Leveraging technology for improved healthcare access; supporting micro-enterprises and digital entrepreneurship with business management skills and empowering young agri-preneurs with cutting-edge technology.
