The Member of Parliament for Asawase and Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has expressed profound appreciation to the team behind the Annual Muntaka Mubarak Free Eyecare and Breast Cancer Screening Initiative after the completion of this year’s large-scale medical outreach.

Speaking in a post on his official Facebook page, the MP praised the commitment of medical professionals, volunteers, and partner organizations whose efforts led to the screening of more than 9,000 individuals and the renewal of over 13,000 National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards across Greater Kumasi.

The Asawase MP described the achievement as “historic,” noting that the numbers represented “real people, real families, and real stories of lives improved, hope restored, and health renewed.”

Scope of the Outreach
This year’s exercise covered 8 constituencies and 30 electoral areas in the Greater Kumasi area. A total of 6,656 people were screened for various eye conditions, while 2,344 individuals underwent breast health screening.

Medical Findings and Services Provided
Refraction cases: 1,820
Cataract cases identified: 631
Glaucoma cases identified: 308
Reading glasses dispensed: 1,049
Mammograms conducted: 117
NHIS card renewals: 13,019

The MP also announced that over 120 patients have already undergone successful cataract surgeries at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, with another group scheduled for surgery beginning tomorrow.

Acknowledgment of Leadership and Support
Alhaji Muntaka commended the medical team, led by Dr. Kamil Mohammed, for what he described as exceptional dedication and professionalism throughout the exercise.

He also extended gratitude to traditional and religious leaders who supported the initiative.

As a gesture of appreciation, certificates were presented to all members of the medical team.
