The campaign team of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly refuted a viral tape circulating on social media that allegedly claims he promised to return excavators to small-scale miners.
In a statement issued by the team’s spokesperson, Fiifi Boafo, they assert that the TikTok video in question has been doctored and is misleading the public.
“We have noticed that some media outlets are reporting that Dr. Prempeh supposedly said, ‘We will give everyone his excavator to work in his concession to make money to support the economic growth of their communities’,” the statement read.
Clarifying the issue, Mr. Boafo explained, “The full 20-minute video of Dr. Prempeh’s remarks contains no such statement. Instead, Dr. Prempeh emphasized the importance of responsible mining under strict regulations to protect the environment.”
The campaign team urged the public to dismiss the false reports and reiterated that Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, advocated for small-scale mining to be conducted within the legal framework of Ghana, without the uncontrolled use of excavators.
The statement concluded by encouraging media outlets and the public to verify information before sharing it, to avoid spreading misinformation.
