Calm has been restored at Akyem Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region after irate youth attacked the local police station over the death of a suspect in custody.
The joint intervention of National Security operatives and Police reinforcements brought the situation under control on Sunday morning.
The chaos erupted after news broke that Bright Kena, popularly known as B-Ball, had died in police custody.
He was reportedly arrested during a swoop for allegedly possessing a substance believed to be marijuana.
Angry residents accused the police of subjecting the suspect to fatal brutality.
In protest, the youth stormed the police station, forcing officers on duty to flee.
The protesters vandalized the facility, destroying glass windows, chairs, and tables.
Police have dismissed claims that the station was set ablaze, clarifying that while there was significant damage, no fire was involved.
The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for autopsy, as investigations into the incident continue.
Authorities say security has been reinforced in the community to prevent further disturbances.
