The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its members to immediately cease activities linked to parliamentary campaigns ahead of the party’s official opening of nominations.
In a press release dated September 14, 2026, the NDC National Secretariat said it had taken note of activities being undertaken by some party members with apparent parliamentary ambitions in various constituencies.
The directive, issued following deliberations by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC), applies to members engaging in parliamentary campaign activities “whether directly or indirectly.”
The party cautioned members against organising or participating in meetings, engagements, tours, donations, public appearances or any other activities that could reasonably be perceived as attempts to promote or advance a parliamentary candidature before the official opening of nominations.
The NDC said it considered such premature campaign activities inappropriate and potentially disruptive to the party’s unity, cohesion and orderly functioning.
It warned that members who disregard the directive would be subject to disciplinary action and severe sanctions in accordance with the party’s Constitution, rules and regulations.
Regional, constituency, branch and other party officers have also been directed to ensure compliance with the directive and report breaches to the appropriate party authorities.
The directive comes as the NDC undertakes its 2026 internal reorganisation and executive elections. The party’s official timetable provides for constituency executive elections on October 24 and 25, 2026, followed by regional elections in November and a National Congress in December.
The NDC has previously indicated that the guidelines for its future presidential and parliamentary primaries would be dealt with after the election of new national executives.
The party said it remained committed to a transparent, orderly and credible process for selecting its parliamentary candidates and would communicate the opening of nominations and applicable guidelines at the appropriate time.
