The Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Martin Ameyaw, has urged the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to take his time and carefully consider his options before appointing a running mate.
Martin Ameyaw said the choice of a running mate was a significant decision that could influence Dr Bawumia’s political journey towards the presidency and, therefore, required careful consideration.
In a statement, he noted that several party stalwarts in the Ashanti Region possessed the qualifications to serve as running mate, stressing the need for the presidential candidate to assess all available options before making a final decision.
According to him, the prospective running mate should be loyal, humble, a good communicator and committed to liberal political values.
Mr Ameyaw also said Dr Bawumia could consider appointing a non-political personality, provided the individual demonstrated diligence, kindness, honesty and commitment to national service.
He cautioned against allowing external pressure to influence the timing or substance of the decision.
“I therefore urge the Presidential Candidate to take his time in making this important decision and in determining the appropriate time to unveil his Running Mate,” he said.
Mr Ameyaw added that Dr Bawumia ultimately had the right to select the person he considered most suited for the position.
He expressed confidence in the support of the Ashanti Region for Dr Bawumia as he makes the decision.
“The Ashanti Region stands solidly with you as you make this important decision,” he stated, concluding with the message: “Together, we shall rise!”
