Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has mocked the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for holding a parliamentary majority for just 24 hours, labeling it a historic anomaly.
Bawumia emphasized the importance of voting him into power, but stressed that securing a parliamentary majority is crucial. To achieve this, he urged supporters to vote for candidates like Joseph Frimpong, NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Nkawkaw.
“It’s crucial to vote Dr. Bawumia into power, but equally important is voting for Joseph Frimpong, as we need a parliamentary majority.”
Dr Bawumia stressed that the NPP government is currently worried, holding 137 seats, following the brief NDC majority in parliament.
“We’re worried because our party and them currently holds 137 seats each. Due to what transpired in parliament two days ago. I’m sure you’re aware of it; nonetheless, their majority lasted only 24 hours”
“The shortest-lived majority in history I know a mere 24-hour majority”, he emphasized.
Dr Bawumia on a campaign trail at Nkwakwaw mocked the NDC that manufacturing a majority isn’t possible; instead, it must be earned through constituency wins.
“I want them to know that if they want majority, come to the polling station, come to the constituency, win an election and then go to parliament. You cannot sit in parliament and just manufacture a majority for yourselves.”
Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in securing a parliamentary majority, citing campaign efforts and data analysis.
“I have visited around 200 constituencies and campaigned on the ground. I have seen the data, and based on the evidence, I can confidently say that if elections were held today, NPP would have a decisive majority in parliament, without a doubt.”
