NDC’s nine-month Galamsey surpasses NPP’s eight years- Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh

MP Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh challenges NDC’s nine-month record, accusing the government of worsening illegal mining despite promises to end it swiftly

NDC’s nine-month Galamsey surpasses NPP’s eight years- Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh
Share on WhatsApp

Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has criticized the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to end illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, despite promising swift action.

In an interview on UTV’s morning show monitored by Kumasimail, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh accused the NDC of creating unrealistic expectations while they were in opposition.

He said the party blamed the fight against galamsey entirely on former President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo’s administration.

He stated, “They made us believe Akuffo Addo brought galamsey. The galamsey that was going on in Ghana was an Akuffo Addo matter.”

He added that the NDC portrayed the former president Akuffo Addo as the direct cause of the problem, suggesting that the only solution was to vote him out and bring former President John Dramani Mahama back to office.

Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stressed “The NDC created the impression that it was Akuffo Addo in the pit doing it, and that if we want to stop galamsey in Ghana, we should vote against Akuffo Addo and bring in Mahama. If Mahama becomes president, galamsey will stop.”

According to Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, NDC made the public to believe that stopping galamsey would take just one week under Mahama’s presidency, attributing the solution solely to the president’s commitment.

He questioned, “If it’s the president’s commitment that ends galamsey, why are we here nine months since they assumed office and galamsey is still ongoing?”

The MP further alleged that illegal mining activities under the NDC’s current nine months in government have surpassed the levels recorded during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) eight years in office.

“I can tell you with authority that the amount of galamsey the NDC has done within nine months in office is higher than what the NPP did in eight years.”

He accused the NDC of facilitating galamsey operations continuously throughout the day.

“What is happening right now is, they do galamsey in the morning, afternoon, and evening,” Asafo-Adjei Ayeh concluded.
