The National Security Coordinator, COP Osman Abdul Razak, has revealed that over 10,000 CCTV cameras have been installed across Ghana as part of efforts to enhance national surveillance and crime prevention.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new Signals Bureau facility in Koforidua, COP Abdul Razak highlighted the expansion of the National Surveillance and Vigilance (NSV) network.
He explained that the NSV now operates a growing number of cell towers nationwide, underpinning the deployment of thousands of CCTV cameras to strengthen security monitoring.
“The NSV has a growing network of cell towers across the country and has installed over 10,000 CCTV cameras nationwide. And we intend to expand this,” COP Abdul Razak said.
He emphasized that the Eastern Region will play a pivotal role in the next phase of this crucial infrastructure development.
He, however, stressed that new facility in Koforidua will serve as a regional hub where surveillance data will be analyzed.
COP Abdul Razak stated, “The data and capabilities generated by this asset in the Eastern Region will be analyzed right here in this very facility, making Koforidua a key node in our national security network.”
He also underscored the importance of leveraging local human capital to maximize the facility’s impact.
“A facility of this sophistication requires a workforce of equal caliber. We recognize the immense talent that abounds in the Eastern Region. Koforidua and the Eastern Region boast bright graduates from several tertiary institutions who are tech-savvy youth with innovative minds. The human resources we need are right here,” COP Abdul Razak emphasized.
He concluded by calling for a focused effort in recruiting and developing young professionals from the region to support ongoing and future security initiatives.
