Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John has raised alarm over persistent poor telecommunication network connectivity across parts of the region, describing the situation as a threat to business growth, public service delivery and security operations.
At a meeting with the Acting Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the Minister singled out the Eastern Corridor as a major trouble spot.
“Poor network connectivity along the Eastern Corridor continues to affect businesses, public service delivery and daily communication among residents,” Hon. Ali Adolf John stressed, urging immediate intervention.
He called for the construction of additional communication towers to strengthen coverage and improve service quality across the region.
The Minister warned that the connectivity gaps are not only an economic issue but also a security risk.
“Security remains a major concern in the Northern Region. Inadequate network connectivity hampers the effective operations of our security agencies,” he said, noting that improved telecommunications infrastructure would enhance surveillance, emergency response and coordinated security operations.
Responding to the concerns, Rev. Ing. Fianko acknowledged the challenges and assured the Minister of the NCA’s commitment to addressing network deficiencies in the region.
He disclosed that a technical team is currently collaborating with network providers in neighbouring Togo to stabilise and improve connectivity along the Eastern Corridor.
The Acting Director-General is on a regional working tour to engage staff and key stakeholders, assess progress and address challenges in communications network development.
The meeting took place at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the NRCC and the NCA to improve telecommunications infrastructure in the region.
