A leading figure in the campaign camp of Alhaji Ibrahim Manaf, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Asawase constituency, has revealed that the party is poised to unseat the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, in the upcoming December 7th elections.
The NPP’s strategy, according to the campaign insider, hinges heavily on financial resources.
The campaign insider, identified as Baba Ibrahim (not his real name), who is a close relative of Manaf, stated, “We are winning this parliamentary election hands down with money. Muntaka is currently under-resourced, and we have already begun distributing money to the electorate in our closed-door campaigns, particularly through our base-to-base campaign.”
He further disclosed that the NPP campaign team sometimes spends as much as GHC 40,000 a day on campaign activities. “The people want money before they will vote. That’s what the youth have been demanding every time we meet them, so we have prepared for them based on their demands and expectations from the Manaf camp,” he added.
Baba Ibrahim also mentioned that despite the lack of financial support from the party itself, Manaf has been personally funding the campaign. “He has purchased three brand new pickup vehicles for campaign use, reflecting his commitment to the race”.
The NPP’s defeat in the 2020 elections, where their candidate Alidu Seidu lost to Muntaka by a significant margin, has fueled a determination to prove a point this time around after the national and regional executives of the party conspired and disqualify Manaf Ibrahim from the race for the former Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief executive Alidu Seidu to Contest the parliamentry primary unopposed.
He emphasized, “Whether the party gives us money or not, we are winning the seat to prove a point to the party because we’re fully prepared physically, financially, and spiritually. The youth are on our side once we meet their demand, which is money. Any base to base campaign we organize in the constituency we pay the people who come to listen to our campaign Ghc.50 each. “
Again” we are capitalizing on the division in the NDC is the constituency to break the NDC front in the constituency. we all know that the constituency chairman is against Muntaka re-election we are making sure that there will be no peace between the two in our interest in this election”.
In the 2020 general elections, the NPP suffered a significant defeat in Asawase, with Alidu Seidu securing only 33% of the vote (31,256 votes) against Muntaka’s 66.36% (61,659 votes).
