With just four months to the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set an ambitious target to win the majority of parliamentary seats and form the next government in 2025.
In the Ashanti region, the party aims to contribute at least 85% of the national presidential votes, while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) targets 35% of the votes in the region.
However, political analysts have described these targets as overly ambitious and unrealistic.
As campaign activities intensify in the Ashanti region, the NPP appears to have conceded the Asawase parliamentary seat to the incumbent NDC MP, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarack.
Instead, the party is focusing on increasing the votes for its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the constituency.
To achieve this, the party has formed a special taskforce to work on constituencies and communities where the NPP is not popular, particularly in Zongos and settler communities.
The taskforce have been assigned to ensure electorates in communities like Asawase, New Edubiase, Sekyere Afram Plains and Ejura Sekyere Odumasi Constituencies vote-skirt and browse, voting for the NDC’s parliamentary candidate while supporting Dr. Bawumia, who is seen as a Muslim candidate when the realized that the people are eager to votes for the parliamentary candidates.
With this project, the party is adopting inter personal effective communication campaign strategy to enable them spend some quality time with the electorate in the target communities.
Ashanti regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), disclosed on Abusua FM that the party will form the next government through special tactics in the Ashanti region.
The party at moment is leaving no stone unturned in the region and also targeting the Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, where they believe they can make gains due to the absence of the influential Duffour family.
A special team has been mobilized and resourced to campaign in the constituency after the regional launch of the party’s campaign in Kumasi on 11th August 2024.
