The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Obuasi East constituency of the Ashanti Region organized a large health walk through the principal streets of Obuasi over the weekend. The event aimed to foster unity among party members and rally support for the 2024 general elections.
Hundreds of party supporters participated, adorned in NDC colors, and singing campaign songs as they marched for over five hours. The walk concluded at the AGA clubhouse in Wawase, where Samuel Aboagye, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, addressed the energized crowd.
In his speech, Aboagye expressed gratitude to the party’s executives, opinion leaders, and supporters for their turnout. He encouraged them to actively campaign by highlighting the achievements of the NDC’s presidential candidate, former President John Mahama.
“I want you all to know that the NDC is winning this election, but we cannot do so if you stay home on election day. Go out, campaign, and spread the word about the good works of the NDC. Also, make sure to vote massively for the party,” he urged.
Aboagye criticized the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing him of poor leadership over the last eight years. He claimed that the MP has failed to improve the lives of constituents, leaving them impoverished and deprived of the development they deserve.
Positioning himself as the better candidate to bring the change Obuasi East needs, Aboagye expressed confidence in unseating Dr. Yiadom in the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections. He previously contested the incumbent in 2020 but lost.
The health walk forms part of the NDC’s broader strategy to energize its base and prepare for what they hope will be a victorious election in 2024.
