The Obuasi Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service has foiled a robbery attempt on the Tutuka-Akrofuom road in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the arrest of one suspect.
According to a police statement, officers responded to a distress call reporting a robbery in progress along the stretch. Upon reaching the scene, the police team encountered a group of armed men who quickly abandoned their operation and fled into the surrounding bush.
Two unregistered motorbikes and a machete were recovered at the scene, believed to have been left behind by the fleeing suspects.
A swift manhunt ensued, during which one of the suspects, identified as Pascal Yenkye, was apprehended after being shot in the leg while attempting to escape on a motorbike. He is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.
The Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.
“A manhunt is underway to arrest the other suspects on the run to face the law,” the statement added.
