A police officer has been shot dead during a snap check operation at Pwalugu in the Upper East Region, police sources have confirmed.
The incident occurred late Monday night while the officer and colleagues were carrying out routine snap checks along a major roadway in the area.
Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear, including the circumstances under which the officer was attacked and whether any arrests have been made.

The injured officer was rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment but died later. Four other victims all police officers who survived life threatening injuries are responding to medical treatment.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident and has intensified patrols in and around Pwalugu as part of efforts to track down the assailants.
Police have appealed to members of the public to remain calm and to volunteer any information that may assist in the investigation.
