The Ghana Police Service has announced traffic management measures ahead of two major rallies by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) scheduled for Thursday, December 5.
The NDC rally will take place at Zurak Park in Madina, while the NPP rally will be held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
At a press conference on Wednesday, December 4, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, outlined the traffic regulations and safety measures aimed at ensuring smooth travel for party supporters and the general public. These include route diversions and an increased police presence to prevent potential clashes.
For NPP supporters traveling from Adenta, they will be redirected at Ritz Junction, passing through Aviation and UPSA, before reaching Okponglo to access Legon. Supporters coming from Dome will be routed through Haatso Junction, passing GIMPA and proceeding to the University of Ghana.
For NDC supporters, those arriving from the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange will turn right at Shiashie, head toward UPSA, and take a left turn to join the Madina main road. Supporters from Dome will be redirected at the KFC Junction on Haatso Road, continue toward Wisconsin University, and proceed to Zongo Junction.
Additionally, a roadblock will be set up in front of the NDC rally venue in Madina to manage traffic flow. Police officers will be stationed along key routes to assist road users and ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
The police have urged both political parties to maintain discipline among their supporters to prevent disturbances during the rallies.
