President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, January 31, 2026, officially launched the SheaPark Resource Hub at the Wa Naa’s Palace, describing the initiative as a major step toward economic revival and industrial transformation in the Upper West Region.
The SheaPark Resource Hub is a flagship intervention aimed at revitalising the regional economy through industrialisation and value addition within the shea sector, positioning the Upper West Region as a key contributor to Ghana’s broader agro-industrial transformation agenda.

The launch ceremony was attended by traditional authorities, senior government officials and political leaders, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who is also the proponent of the initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Bagbin described the occasion as a “royal honour and blessing,” and expressed gratitude to the organisers for the opportunity to be part of what he termed a historic and potentially transformative intervention.

According to him, the SheaPark Resource Hub represents a critical development pathway not only for the Upper West Region but for the country as a whole.
He noted that the project marks a significant milestone in efforts to resuscitate the regional economy through sustainable, inclusive and community-driven development.
The Speaker further explained that the initiative aligns with key government flagship programmes, including the Big Push, the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development agenda.
He said the project draws inspiration from President Mahama’s vision of building a self-reliant, industrially competitive and export-driven Ghanaian economy anchored on integrated value chains and a globally competitive workforce.

President Mahama, in his remarks, underscored the importance of leveraging local resources to create jobs, enhance incomes and drive regional development, stressing that the shea industry holds immense potential for women and youth empowerment in northern Ghana.
The event was graced by His Royal Highness Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, Paramount Chief of Wa; the Member of Parliament for Wa Central; regional ministers; Municipal and District Chief Executives; parliamentary and presidential staffers; and several other distinguished guests.
The SheaPark Resource Hub is expected to serve as a centre for processing, training, innovation and market access, with the ultimate goal of boosting exports, improving livelihoods and strengthening Ghana’s position in the global shea value chain.
