President John Dramani Mahama has visited the Central Business District of Adum in Kumasiin the Ashanti Region, to assess the devastation caused by a massive fire that razed hundreds of shops.
The fire, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, left traders scrambling to salvage their goods as flames swept through the market.
Many lost their livelihoods in the blaze, which was fueled by highly flammable materials stored in the shops.
During his visit, President Mahama sympathized with the affected traders and assured them of his government’s support.
He called for immediate relief efforts to help those impacted and urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
However, he also cautioned traders against cooking in the market, noting that the use of gas cylinders had contributed to the fire.
Firefighters struggled to contain the inferno due to obstructed access routes and delayed response times.
Some traders blamed persistent power outages for possibly triggering the disaster.
Mahama’s visit was met with gratitude and cheers from traders, who welcomed his commitment to helping them rebuild.
