Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun has announced a temporary withdrawal from public prophetic declarations and pulpit ministry following a failed prediction ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026.
In a public accountability statement issued after the primaries, Nelson-Eshun acknowledged responsibility for prophetic declarations he made predicting victory for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The outcome of the contest did not align with that forecast.
Citing humility and accountability, the prophet said he has chosen to take “a short and intentional pause” from making public prophetic statements, particularly those touching on national and political matters.
He also disclosed that he will step back “for a season” from public teaching, preaching, and pulpit ministry.
“This is a deliberate and voluntary step to allow for reflection, prayer, counsel, and the strengthening of accountability in how prophetic revelations are received, interpreted, and communicated,” the statement said.
Nelson-Eshun emphasized that the decision does not amount to a complete withdrawal from ministry.
He said he remains committed to personal prayer, study, and quiet pastoral responsibilities while working toward realignment in “growth, integrity, and discernment.”
The statement comes amid renewed public scrutiny of religious figures who issue political prophecies during election cycles, a practice that has sparked debate in Ghana about accountability, credibility, and the intersection of faith and politics.
“I value the trust of the people I serve, and I do not take it lightly,” Nelson-Eshun said, appealing for prayers, patience, and understanding during what he described as a period of reassessment.
The NPP presidential primaries, held on January 31, marked a critical step in the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.
While the party has not commented on the prophet’s statement, the episode has reignited broader conversations about the influence of prophetic declarations on political discourse in the country.
