Bishop Salifu Amoako’s 16-yr-old son remanded for a week, pleads not guilty to manslaughter

The Juvenile Court in Accra has remanded Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako’s 16-year-old son (name withheld) into Osu Borstal Home for one week after making his first appearance in Court on Friday, November 1.

The Juvenile pleaded not guilty to eights counts – which comprised of two counts of manslaughter, three counts of negligently causing harm, two counts of dangerous driving and a count of driving without license.

Her Worship Bernice Mensimah Ackon, the Magistrate while remanding him into Osu Borstal Home said he should reappear on November 7.

As part of the remand order, the Court has directed that his Ghanaian and US passports including all traveling documents are to be deposited at the court on Monday, November 4.

EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, who was at the Court reports that, the juvenile arrived in Court in an ambulance vehicle but left in a pickup while in clutches.

Background

The son of the Bishop, a 16-year-old [name withheld], who was driving a white Jaguar rammed a Honda Acura at East Legon and killed the two 12-year-old girls on the spot.

Police investigations have established that on October 12, 2024, the suspect driver, [name withheld], aged 16, was driving a Jaguar SUV vehicle with registration number GN 7801 – 20 with one other occupant.

He rammed into a 4×4 Honda Acura vehicle also with registration number GR 2542 – 23, which was being driven by Joseph Ackah with four other occupants.

The accident happened at Mensah Wood Street at East Legon. 

Both cars caught fire and burned beyond recognition.

Police investigation as of now indicates that three of the five victims in the Honda Acura vehicle during the accident were rescued.

Two of the rescued victims who sustained minor injuries were treated and discharged, while the third is still on admission receiving medical attention.

The suspect driver, the 16-year-old with the other occupant in the Jaguar vehicle were also rescued and are currently on admission at the hospital.

The parents of the minor suspect driver, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are currently in custody assisting the investigation, a police statement issued after the accident said.
